Hear No Evil

This episode is Hear No Evil. The usual spoiler warning applies as well as my many ramblings about these two good-looking men.

The basic story is that corrupt cops are killing other cops, and stealing drugs and money from busts.

Our first look at the guys finds Jim in his black leather coat that he wears through this episode. He has on a long-sleeved blue t-shirt and brown pants. Blair is wearing his brown leather coat also. He has on a blue and grey plaid shirt over a grey t-shirt and jeans. It seems that Jim has been putting off his annual physical for the department and Simon orders him to get the check-up done today. Jim is afraid that his Sentinel abilities will act up during the exam. I like that Simon says to take Sandburg along, that's why Jim puts up with him. Jim grits his teeth and goes to the doctor.

We are treated to an absolutely wonderful scene of Jim and Blair at the doctor's office. Jim confides that he's afraid his senses will react to the doctor's exam. Blair calms his Sentinel down by giving him some tips on relaxation. Blair is just so darned cute. He sits cross-legged and directs Jim to breathe in and out and repeat a mantra: I am relaxed. Jim follows Blair's instructions and when Blair asks Jim is he is relaxed, Jim says yes. Blair promptly looks at him and goes "Blah!" right in his face. Jim jumps and the two other patients in the waiting area freak. Blair laughs at his little joke. This is just too funny. Oh, and Jim also told the other patients that Blair was there for on-going therapy. Jim can be funny when he wants to be

Then we are treated to Jim in various stages of undress with some stupid woman pawing over him. God, but Jim has such a good body. What a treat! Anyway, the doctor finds that Jim has impacted ears and cleans them out. The result is that Jim's hearing is fritzed. It seems that once the wax was removed, everything is being heard at extremely high levels.  Apparently, the wax was impeding his ability, which is even stronger than Blair had thought.

Then we see Jim trying to sleep. He is in bed (faint!) in those pretty blue sheets that show off his eyes. He tosses and turns, hearing the faucet drip, dogs bark, etc. Then he hears this irritating scratching noise. He leaps out of bed. Blair is downstairs, writing away. The noise Jim hears is Blair's pen against the paper. Jim runs down the stairs and grabs the pen out of Blair's hand, tossing it away. "Do you have to write so damned loud!?" He yells at poor Blair, who tries not to smile at Jim's reactions. Then Blair's alarms goes off and Jim goes over the edge. It seems that the earplugs aren't working and he hears everything in mega-volume and can't turn it down. Blair explains that his hearing, his greatest asset, was working at only about 50% before and that now they will just start over with the control issues. Jim is, of course, thrilled. Oh, yes, Jim is in those wonderful plaid boxers. What a sight!

Blair is wearing a grey long sleeve shirt, jeans and glasses in this scene. Jim is back in bed when he hears a chopper. He then hears a scream and tears down the stairs and out the door, with Blair following, asking him what is going on. They race to the waterfront where Jim sees a police chopper out over the bay toss a body into the water. He feels the ground, senses where the body lay when the chopper first landed and finds a glove with some blood on it. Of course, it is so dark out that no one without Sentinel abilities could have possibly seen what had happened.

The next morning finds Jim and Blair standing watching the recovery effort. Jim is zoned on the events. Simon can't get his attention and yells at him. Blair should have stepped in and talked Jim out instead of letting him be startled out of the zone. We find out that the dead guy is an cop. I like the close-up shot of Jim in this fade. He has a very determined look on his face. He's going to figure this out or else.

In the bullpen, Jim is overwhelmed by everything going on. All the sounds are bombarding him and his head is aching. Blair shows up with a great smile and sets something down on the desk. Blair is wearing a brown shirt over a blue henley and jeans. Jim has on a brown plaid shirt over a brown shirt and brown pants. This scene always kind of bugs me. Blair sets down a white noise generator and immediately Jim's hearing settles down. Jim is pleased that the noise is now at a normal level. Then Blair presents him with specially made white noise generator earplugs. Jim puts them in and sighs that things are finally normal and he can get some work done. He launches into questions about the case. Blair has to actually say, how about a thank you. Jim smarts off and says, thanks, I'll send you a card. I just don't get why they made Jim seem like manners weren't in his dictionary. After all that trouble and after a later scene when Jim is ecstatic over regaining his control, this isn't Jim-like to me.

Things progress along. The dead cop belonged to a highly respected division of the Cascade PD called "The Crew". Sheila Irwin, an IA cop from Deep Water shows up and we are led to believe that she and Jim get together in this episode. I pretty much ignore that part. I do like when Jim and Blair go to "The Crew" bullpen and the men are getting ready to head to a bust. They are chanting and Blair gets this funny looks and says they remind him of a tribe in New Guinea heading for battle. He said they were so pumped up they killed everything on their way to battle and on the way back home afterwards. I also like that when they are not made too welcome that Jim uses his hands on Blair to guide him from the room. Jim is always protective of his Guide.

Well, our guys follow The Crew to the bust. Jim suffers a bit of a whammy on his sight. It fritzes out and this makes Blair tell him to piggy back his sight and hearing together. This is the first time that Jim has used this particular ability. He finds that he can connect two of his senses together and one will lead the other. He piggybacks his hearing and "sees" what is going on inside the building. He knows that the cops have stolen the drugs and when a car leaves, they follow, videotaping the drop and pick up by a police chopper. IA now has evidence of police wrongdoing.

I love the next scene. We are treated to Blair coming from his room, buckling belt and leaning over Jim, grilling him. It seems that Sheila followed Jim home last night. Jim says nothing happened, thank heavens. I love when Jim and Blair talk quietly with their heads together. It is just too cute. Blair has on a grey henley and black jeans. He adds a plaid shirt a bit later in the episode. Jim has on a grey and brown knit sweater and grey pants. I did notice that Blair sits next to Jim at the breakfast table and serves him. Sheila sits away from Jim. She must know to never get between a Sentinel and his Guide.

The guys traipse out to the woods on a hunch and find a body and clues about the bad cops. Jim sends Blair for help since they are out of cell range. Jim hears digging in the woods and goes to investigate, telling Sheila to stay behind. The bad guy whacks him with a shovel. Ouch! There are two of them and they nab Sheila and take off. Simon shows up with the troops. Jim interrupted their digging and they leave behind all the evidence implicating the bad cops. I like when Blair makes a remark about tightly knit units and Simon is impressed, asking Jim if he's teaching Blair cop secrets.

This next bit is very good. Jim hears something. Blair is excited that Jim can now control the "new" hearing totally. Jim grins at his Guide and they slap hands. Jim says, Good Job, Chief. Blair is thrilled. See, Jim can be grateful. I have no idea why they made him so snitty before. Bad writer!

Unfortunately we are treated to at least ten minutes of a very stupid helicopter chase. Yes, one helicopter chases the other. I was bored to tears. Blair made a few faces about being up so high but I didn't see any panic attack. That phobia about heights comes and goes, I guess. Jim does use his new piggyback technique to locate the other chopper.

The tag reveals that nothing really did happen between Jim and Sheila as she introduces her fiancée to the guys. It seems that Simon and Blair bet a buck on the event and Blair loses. The episode ends with Blair telling the Captain that he needs that money for books.

This is a good episode from the standpoint that most of the episode is about Jim's senses and how Blair helps him work through a new problem. The cop stuff was dull and boring as usual. Sorry!!! Next we will examine Light My Fire.

The End.
