Killers

Remember, these are useless ramblings with lots of spoilers--

In this third episode, we have a big decision made in the fledgling series. Jim, Blair and Simon decide that no one should know about Jim's abilities and that they would all obfuscate, lie and cover up from here on out. I have always wondered why this was done, other than to make more episodes and be sneaky. Let's face it, when Jim and Simon have that scene in Simon's office when Simon says that even if Jim came forward and told the truth, no one would believe him, that is a false statement. They could have set up a series of tests with some scientists or doctors, proven Jim's abilities, and gotten the killer off the street immediately. The judge could have witnessed the tests and ruled, Ellison could very well have seen the crime. Juno is quilty. Then every criminal would know Jim was around and would have moved onto Seattle or Tacoma to cause trouble, thereby rendering Cascade the most peaceful city in America. Oops, end of series. Yes, I know. Black ops steals Jim and Blair, etc. etc. But I digressed, no use inserting logic at this point. It's irrelevant.

The first scene shows us Jim and Blair waiting for Jim's contact. Very nice scene between Jim and Danny. We get that Ellison smile that doesn't come often enough for my liking. Of course, Danny is killed. It's rough being a friend to these guys; it tends to get you killed. Kind of like being the odd man on a ST away mission. Very emotional, if un-Ellison-like, scene over Danny's body.

I have to say Jim did look good in the scene talking to whathername when she asks him out for a beer. Other than I didn't like that sweater. They go to Jim's place (Where is Blair? Keeping watch from his room, I hope.) Here Jim suffers from the first episode of wacko senses. And such touching feelings from Beverly. Hey, Jim, why don't you want to do it? After all, your friend just got killed. Geez.

I love the scene when Jim and Blair are going through security at the courthouse and Blair is talking, trying to get Jim to tell him about his loss of hearing. Jim holds up Blair's name tag while Blair just keeps on talking. And doesn't Jim look very fine in a suit? Blair has on that dark blue shirt that matched the color of his eyes. Yummie. The scene with Carolyn, Beverly, Jim and Blair is very good. Jim doesn't have a clue about women. To him, they are just for sport and they obviously don't have feelings. Just kidding. Blair sets him straight (HA!) about how he is dead meat. Blair is very good at teaching lessons. Nice exchange between them with Jim looking just a bit confused.

The dreaded cross-exam. Jim looks quite appealing being grilled. He gets frustrated about the questioning and looks for Blair for help who signals him no, don't tell the truth. Needless to say, all hell breaks loose. Back at the station, Beverly rips him a new one. So much for Miss Sweetness and Light. She accuses our Jimmy of lying. Stupid bitch. This is where Simon tells Jim to lie through his teeth. Onward.

Oh, the scene in Jim's car. Our officer of the law is illegally tapping Juno's phone, for heaven's sake. And Blair points this out to our officer, and he tells Blair to either shut up and go along or take a hike. Blair should have went to Simon immediately but when we wouldn't have had that wonderful ass-chewing scene that is coming up right about now.

After they are caught tailing Juno, I love the scene when Jim and Blair are standing in a line while Simon is reaming them a new one. Have I mentioned that I love Simon Banks? He yells at Jim first, who actually manages to look just a bit contrite, but not much. Blair is so wonderful in that scene. He looks all upset and when he hesitates to pull off his credentials after Simon demands them, such a look on his face. Then he passes in front of Jim, who touches him, of course. I love when Blair walks away from the camera. Something about how he walks. Very nice. He puts his head up and strides off. Gives me goosebumps.

And then, we have Blair leaning on the wall. I love it when he stands with that one foot up. He looks especially attractive there. Jim does the same thing in The Debt, so it's the position, because Jim looks yummie too. Jim expects Blair to blast him. You can see by the look on his face, and when Blair sides with him about them both being schmucks, Jim looks grateful. He thinks, hey, maybe there's some potential here after all. Another small brick removed from the wall around Jim's heart.

I love the hospital scene. Who wouldn't? Blair racking his brain trying to figure out what's wrong with Jim after he looses the feelings in his hands. Jim smarting off about wanting pizza with motor oil. And Blair is so expectant when Jim says it might be something he's eaten. Sweet line from Jim about taking the detour to the Sandburg zone. The zone he willingly enters time and time again. Blair's look when the doors close, pure frustration at a hard-headed Sentinel. So cute.

Well, the story goes on to find the bad guy. Blair saves Beverly's life, being the hero that he is, and Jim manages to shoot Juno. Good scene in the hospital when Beverly tries to apologize after her exceedingly frightful behavior towards Jim. Jim barely acknowledges her and takes Blair home. Good Jim. Anyway, the main plot is that Juno is a hit man, but how can he always have an alibi? Easy, he has an identical twin brother who is always extremely visible when the hit is going down. Hence, Juno is always in the clear--until now! (dramatic music plays)

So they hatch The Plan. Blair is funny trying to get the darned tape recorder to play at the right time. Oh, and he has figured out that Jim's senses are acting up because of the stress of the case and his friend's death. We find out that Jim's senses are susceptible to his emotional state. Jim denies even having an emotional state, but we know better. Anyway in the fun house mirror scene, he manages to pull himself together and control his senses.

Jim looks very appealing in the last scene with his face kind of battered and dirty. Blair is thrilled as Jim explains what happened. You can see Blair taking mental notes to write all this down later at home. Then The Faithful Companion does the unthinkable, he leaves Jim in the clutches of Beverly. Oh, well, Blair knew it wouldn't work out anyway. Great shot of Jim smiling in the last couple of seconds.

The End.
