Three Point Shot

This is one of two basketball episodes. The first thing is find out is that Jim has a new ride! A 1969 two-toned - blue and white - Ford pickup. Jim looks good in blue.
Both boys are going inside the Cascade sports areas, and they're both dressed in blue. Jim has on a short-sleeve royal polo shirt that shows off his chest nicely, those icky brown slacks, and it's apparently warm in Cascade for a change, since he's not wearing a coat. Blair has on a long, silky sky-blue long-sleeve shirt with the sleeves rolled up (unbuttoned), a white t-shirt and tan khakis. The shot of them from the back walking into the arena is very nice.
We also find out Blair was born in 1969. I love when Blair sees some women (cheerleaders) and drools, that Jim pulls him away. Jim always protects his property. <beg> We are then subjected to basketball. We meet Arthur Dell, owner of the Jags and a friend of Simon's, and Ray Crouse, head of security. Ray tells us he was injured before he could turn pro. We are then introduced to the players. One named Dwight Roshman is not friendly. Orvelle Wallace is very nice, and Blair is excited beyond belief since he's Blair's idol. It's so cute when Blair gushes like a teenager over a rock star.
There is a bit of rough play on the court and an altercation between Dwight and Orvelle. Our boys are asked to leave. In the locker room, Dwight asks one of his buddies to be a decoy for the reporters that are lurking about. He gives his friend his keys and jacket. The friend is killed in his place. And a very cool car is taken. The theory is since Roshman has been talking about leaving the team, that some psycho fan was upset and killed the friend thinking it was Roshman.
In the scene where Simon, Jim and Blair are discussing theories, Jim is wearing a teal shirt, button-up this time, with (finally!) light tan khakis. Blair is wearing a shirt that looks like some sort of jacket/shirt cross. It's grey, unbuttoned, with a white t-shirt underneath, and jeans. Then the boys go to visit Dwight about his death threats.
I'm not a big sports fan but it's fun to watch Jim and Blair play basketball again. (They played in Vow of Silence.) We find out Blair was all-city point guard, and that Jim played college ball. They challenge Dwight to a game. Nice scene that switches from black and white to color. I like the way it was filmed. I also like that Blair tells Jim to use his “special skills” so they can win and thereby impress Dwight. Jim hears a funny sound and the backboard crashes. It's determined that it was sabotage. May I say the boys looks mighty fine all hot and sweaty? <beg>
Oh, Dwight is living with Shelly Wallace, Orvelle's niece. And the two men don't get along. Dwight thinks Orvelle is out to kill him. Blair is so nice defending Orvelle, somebody he admires a heck of a lot. Blair's hair is very long in this episode, as a note of interest. Orvelle of course, says that he'd never hurt Dwight and even though there are suspicions about Dwight abusing Shelley, he says as long as Dwight treats her well, he has no objections to the relationship.
Dwight goes down to the station with Jim and Blair – in the back of the Volvo! The man is almost seven feet tall! Blair mentions Dwight's bracelet from Africa that he is wearing. Remember this for later. They are heading to the station when they take a call, and they pursue the Viper, stolen earlier, in Blair's '68 Volvo. That is just too funny. Oh, and you can clearly see the clutch peddle, for anybody who wonders if the Volvo has a manual transmission. They arrest two kids of about fifteen and soon figure out that these are not the killers.
Jim and Simon are talking about who benefits from Roshman's death, one being the owner, Simon's friend, Arthur Dell. In a cute scene, Simon tells Jim to attend a shindig at the Jags' club tonight. Jim intends to take Blair and Simon is very disappointed. Funny how Jim always thinks about his little buddy first.
I love the scene in the police station between Orvelle and Blair where Blair praises Orvelle's abilities to the skies. Very nicely done. Then the boys go to the party, all gussied up. Jim has on a dark grey suit, a bluish-grey shirt, and patterned tie. Blair has on a brown jacket, tan shirt and matching tie. Oh, and Blair tells us his cousin is a bookie who's doing odds on the Jags. Shelly and Dwight get engaged, and Dwight and Orvelle get into it again, in public. Orvelle's bracelet is broken. Aha! A clue for later. <beg>
Of course, Dwight's body is found in the locker room. Jim is wearing a strange shirt. It looks kind of grey with some tiny design over it. I've never seen this one before. Blair has on his dark green silk shirt from Warriors, over a grey t-shirt and tan khakis.
Then we have a wardrobe change and Jim is wearing a dark green t-shirt with those brown slacks yet again. He must have fifteen pairs, or a wardrobe girl. Blair is wearing a grey t-shirt and light slacks. Jim and Blair are in the bullpen break room having coffee and discussing the case. Blair's hair looks very nice here, like it was just done. Great close-ups of both guys. This is where Blair finally tells Jim he knows what Jim found on the shower room floor. It's a piece of Orvelle's bracelet. I love that Jim comes down on Blair for willfully withholding information when Jim just did it in Warriors! LOL! Talk about fair – not. It did give us a good scene, though. Blair gets great camera for the next five minutes! Then he figures out something...
Blair gets help from his cousin and goes to visit some big time bookie. He has on the same shirt and slacks, but has a burgundy jacket on now. We are subjected to more basketball. The entire thing finally gets wrapped up when Blair finds out that Ray Crouse is in deep for loads of money to his bookie, and that he has a gambling problem. The people he owes money to have been allowing Crouse to take out some of debts “in trade”. That's when Blair figures out that Crouse is the killer who's setting up Orvelle to take the fall for killing Roshman.
Orvelle is hot during the game until Shelly is kidnapped and he is told to throw the game or she'll be killed. Orvelle starts to lose until our hero, the Sentinel, rescues the damsel in distress.
I have to say something about how Blair is treated by Simon in a scene in the arena. Blair explains who the killer is, but Simon immediately dismisses his theory. Jim isn't exactly thrilled either. He protests Wallace's innocence, and they finally start to listen. They agree to look for Ray Crouse, and when Orvelle's phone rings, Jim listens to the phone call. He heard Crouse threaten Wallace, and now he believes Blair (finally!). He sees Crouse in the rafters and he tells Blair to pass on the info to Simon. Blair does as asked, but when he tries to get Simon's attention, Simon jumps down his throat without even listening to him. I don't think it's very nice the way Simon dismisses Blair without hearing him out first. I realize Simon is under a lot of pressure to solve the case, but then he turns around and yells at Blair for not telling him what Jim said sooner, it's so unfair. Such is life, huh?
Suffice it to say that Jim saves the girl, captures Crouse, and Orvelle gets back into the game. Guess who win? The Jags! Woohoo! And the hug between Blair and Orvelle when Blair tells O that Shelly is safe is so cute! Considering I don't like basketball, this is a pretty good episode. And in a dramatic ending, the scoreboard crashes to the floor, leaving Jim hanging on a cable with Crouse holding onto him. Great shots of Blair, btw. Lots of good closeups.
And this is the only episode that doesn't have a tag (that I can remember). The final shot is Blair giving Orvelle a big smile and a fist in victory. He looks damned good.
That's Three Point Shot. Next up is The Girl Next Door.
